UCLA Consultation & Response

One of the goals of the UCLA Consultation & Response Team is to educate the campus community on how to recognize signs that a student may be in crisis, and what to do when they see those signs. We share the responsibility of responding when a student’s health or safety is at risk. True Bruins help students in crisis.

We look forward to coming to your department or event to provide a presentation regarding students in crisis. Please complete the request form below to request a presentation, panelist or to request our presence at a resource fair. The details of the event do not need to be determined (date, time, location, etc.) in order to complete the request form. Please feel free to indicate TBD.

Faculty, TAs, staff and student leaders play a critical role in a student’s university experience and are in a position to become aware of a student in distress or a student of concern. Our presentations will help you understand the components of this central role: identifying, responding to and referring istressed students. Participants will learn to respond effectively to specific types of distressing behaviors to minimize disruption while assisting the student with appropriate resources.

Our presentations include:

  • "Assisting Distressed & Distressing Students- Creating a Culture of Health- Remote Learning" (presented via Zoom) --

    Faculty, TAs and staff play a critical role in a student's university experience and are in a position to become aware of a student in distress even during remote learning. Many of our students are under an even greater level of stress due to the pandemic, but many of them are not aware that most UCLA support services are still available to them.

    This presentation will help participants understand:

    - how to create a culture of health in their sphere of influence,

    - what resources are available to students in distress,

    - how they can assist students in getting connected with resources

    - emergency procedures and

    - how to reach professional staff for consultation regarding distressed or distressing students.

  • "Case Management 101" -- Case Management 101 is designed to help individuals understand the Case Management Services team, how the team is different from and is similar to UCLA's Consultation & Response Team (CRT), and when the two teams work together. During this training participants will also be presented with the level of cases that Case Management handles and how to make referrals to the appropriate campus resources.

Additionally, in order to schedule the presenters…requests must be submitted at least 10 business days in advance. We look forward to accommodating your request and will get back to you within 7 business days.

If you have a group of less than 10, please keep in mind that there are few additional departments on campus who provide presentations including UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), UCLA RISE and Campus Human Resources

Red Folders

UCLA has developed resources and systems to respond to students in any stage of need. The “Red File – Faculty and Staff 911 Guide” provides guidance on how to assist students in crisis. Red Folders are mailed to faculty and staff every other year. If you haven't received one in the mail, please feel free to request one by emailing Karen Minero, Manager of Training & Outreach,
